Our Mission
The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement, will provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
This Month is National Preparedness Month
Starting Monday, 18 of August South Central Wisconsin has deployed
six people to help with the relief efforts of Hurricane Gustav. The
volunteers will be doing assorted jobs for no less than 15
days. The jobs very dramatically but everyone’s
efforts and unique qualities are being utilized to their
fullest. One job that a volunteer is doing is driving the ERV (emergency
response vehicle) to canteen and provides assistance and supplies to the
people stuck in the storm. We also have volunteers that have backgrounds
in law enforcement that are doing Life and Safety and Asset Protection.
This also includes damage assessment and security control. With having
entire towns and cities evacuated, shelter and feeding for thousands of people
is a main priority. Volunteers were deployed to do this with feeding
thousands of people. Talking to a volunteer that is in LA he states that the
shelter that he was in had the roof shaking and water leaking in the air ducts,
keeping people safe and calm was his main priority. Getting involved as a
volunteer is very important on a local level and in times of National
Disasters, with needing thousands of volunteers every single person counts.
Giving is easier than you may think.
Every two seconds, a patient in the
United States
needs blood. During certain times of the year, such as the summer and major
holidays, the need can far outpace donations. Please make an appointment to
donate today. Your blood is needed more than you think.
Local hospital needs are always met first. However, as a
national blood system, the American Red Cross has a unique responsibility to
help ensure all hospital patients throughout the
United States have blood when they
need it.
Simply call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543) or visit givebloodgivelife.org to make an
appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a
reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license, or
two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Eligible donors
must be at least 17 years old, or 16 years old with a signed Red Cross
parental/guardian consent form where state permits, must weigh at least 110
pounds and be in general good health.
